Happy Holidays here at GLIDE

by Kristen Growney Yamamoto, co-Executive Director

GLIDE has come to represent the best of the holidays to me.  Thanksgiving was the kickoff of the holiday season here.  Celebrations of gratitude combined with feeding others bring out the best in our community. GLIDE served nearly 5000 meals during on Thanksgiving, and about 400 volunteers came to help. Those who came were touched by how meaningful their experience was to them—whether it was gratitude, giving or love.

GLIDE hosts special holiday events each week through Christmas.  Each is a celebration of the season, community, and compassion and connection.  On December 6, we held our annual senior luncheon, a festive turkey dinner for the hundreds of seniors we serve each day.  Volunteers from PG&E served as gracious waiters and waitresses for the seniors during their special luncheon.

Coming up soon are the Grocery Bag Giveaway, Toy Bag Giveaway, Old Navy Shopping Spree, Prime Rib Luncheon, Christmas Dinner and special Christmas Celebrations in the church.  Join us if you can, and you will have an enriching experience to carry you through the rest of the holiday season.  And, you’ll be helping thousands in our community embrace their lives with hope and dignity!

A retro photo of Joyce Hayes, a true GLIDE hero, who so strongly believed in supporting children and providing them with stability, education and #unconditionallove. GLIDE regrets to tell our community that Joyce Hayes, an icon in our history and childcare program, passed away on Tuesday, 5/23/2017. Her life, love and legacy will not be forgotten.

Our Harm Reduction Team always needs people to help assemble safer injection kits. Distributing these kits to our community members who inject drugs greatly reduces the spread of Hep C and HIV. It's about #publichealth and recognizing the dignity and human rights of ALL people living in our city! #harmreduction #cleansharps
