GLIDE Dad of the Day

by Tom Ambelang, Case Manager, GLIDE Community Housing, 149 Mason Street Studios

Leonard A., a resident with GLIDE Community Housing at 149 Mason, talked about his role as a father to his two sons, “The most important thing is that they see me as stable, at one point I was going down the wrong track but now, I feel pretty good about being a father. My sons don’t have to look outside for direction and I do my best to keep them on the right track.”

Experiencing a stroke in 2009, Leonard began a long recovery process which led him to move to 149 Mason a year later. He feels GLIDE has certainly helped him as a father, “149 Mason is a part of this. No matter how old they get, or I get, I want them to see that stability and have some kind of stability in their own lives. My personal thing is that all kids need role models to set an example and when they see that, some tend to follow it.”

Leonard works to be that role model, and he feels good that his sons can now visit him in his apartment, “The most important thing is that they have some place to go.”

Our Harm Reduction Team always needs people to help assemble safer injection kits. Distributing these kits to our community members who inject drugs greatly reduces the spread of Hep C and HIV. It's about #publichealth and recognizing the dignity and human rights of ALL people living in our city! #harmreduction #cleansharps
