Teach for America Visits GLIDE

A cohort of around 20 new graduates and members of Teach for America visited GLIDE today to engage with the GLIDE community. They will take the lessons they learn today into the classroom later this year when they are placed as teachers at schools in low-income communities. Teach for America’s mission is to ensure that kids growing up in poverty get an excellent education. They recruit leaders that show a commitment to educational opportunity for all kids.

They spent their day touring GLIDE’s Family Youth and Childcare Center, and learning about GLIDE’s wrap-around programming for families. After serving lunch in our Daily Free Meals Program, they walked around the Tenderloin to immerse in the neighborhood, and later had the opportunity to engage with GLIDE Founders, Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani, and Co-Executive Director, Kristen Growney Yamamoto.

On behalf of the GLIDE Family, thank you, Teach for America, for sharing your time, effort, and love with us today! We wish you well as you empower kids in vulnerable communities around the Bay Area!
