Thanksgiving at GLIDE: A Time for Gratitude

GLIDE’s Daily Free Meals Program is hard at work planning dinner for an anticipated 5,000 guests on Thanksgiving this Thursday.

Our Meals Program, in collaboration with staff and hundreds of volunteers, will prepare hundreds of turkeys and hams, 1,500 pounds of potatoes, 950 pounds of fresh veggies, 312 gallons of stuffing, and a variety of other holiday fare to provide a festive meal for the GLIDE community.

Gratitude fills the dining room as the entire GLIDE family, folks from all walks of life, comes together to share a meal with one another.

For the second year in a row, Season 4 Top Chef Contestant, Ryan Scott, and his organization Harvest from the Heart, will prepare a delicious meal-to-go for 1,750 meals guests to enjoy the day after Thanksgiving. Harvest from the Heart’s mission is to alleviate hunger and offer humanity and assistance to those less fortunate in our community on Thanksgiving Day.

Volunteers from both Harvest from the Heart and GLIDE will team up to assemble, package, and distribute to-go meals to the GLIDE community. Chef Ryan Scott shares his call to action, “We want to help, that’s what we’re here to do, in any possible way we can.”

Our Harm Reduction Team always needs people to help assemble safer injection kits. Distributing these kits to our community members who inject drugs greatly reduces the spread of Hep C and HIV.
