Meet Aventine

Shout out to the Taverna Aventine team! GLIDE is proud to feature Aventine as one of our Food and Beverage Sponsors at the 7th Annual GLIDE Legacy Gala on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Rodrigo Nevado, Aventine Partner and Events Director, shares his GLIDE story as he answers our #toptwo burning questions.

What does “giving back” mean to Aventine?

Giving back means creating a legacy for Aventine. When my partners and I first set out to create Aventine, we did so by paying homage to the history and culture of the Barbary Coast in San Francisco and the Italian community that once congregated at the Aventine Social Club. We quickly realized that the most effective way to create a legacy is to positively affect our community through giving. None of us got to where we are today alone so we believe in our responsibility of giving others an opportunity to succeed. Today, we focus on free cultural events, give our time to non-profit organizations and help support our community wherever possible.

GLIDE’s mission is to create a radically inclusive, just and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization. How does our mission and core values of Radically Inclusive, Truth Telling, Loving and Hopeful, For the People and Celebration resonate with you and Aventine?

Our morals and values start with our executive team and move through our managers and staff. Our parents are civil rights attorneys that helped shape our society with equal rights, small business owners that taught us how important it is to treat everyone fairly and social service personnel that believe in peace over violence. We agree and support the mission laid out by Rev. Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani.

Joyce Hayes, celebrating life, love and GLIDE with @doricamino and @edenchanstreetscooper at the 2014 Holiday Jam. A retro photo of Joyce Hayes, a true GLIDE hero, who so strongly believed in supporting children and providing them with stability, education and #unconditionallove. GLIDE regrets to tell our community that Joyce Hayes, an icon in our history and childcare program, passed away on Tuesday, 5/23/2017. Her life, love and legacy will not be forgotten.
Please take a moment to read this tribute to our beloved "Joy": Shout-out @blueshieldofca volunteers! Our Harm Reduction Team always needs people to help assemble safer injection kits. Distributing these kits to our community members who inject drugs greatly reduces the spread of Hep C and HIV. It's about #publichealth and recognizing the dignity and human rights of ALL people living in our city! #harmreduction #cleansharps
