GLIDE Stands with All Immigrants

A Statement from GLIDE Leadership

GLIDE stands with the 800,000 DACA Dreamers who are our neighbors, friends, colleagues, loved ones and fellow Americans, including the more than 220,000 throughout California and here in the Bay Area.

Rescinding DACA (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy) is an inhumane act that injects fear and uncertainty into our communities. It will mean the loss of jobs, education and health care for hundreds of thousands of young adults and children, not to mention deportation to countries they do not know and where they may face violence and other life-threatening hardships.

This action is part of a larger attack on immigrants across the country, where communities like ours are already plagued by ICE raids and the suffering, isolation and danger they bring. This is occurring in the context of a rising tide of hate and division in America, emboldened by policies that discriminate against, criminalize and scapegoat whole categories of people.

We at GLIDE believe every human being deserves compassion and dignity—everyone—no matter what their immigration status, the color of their skin, or any other feature or circumstance that may pertain to who they are.

Our potential lies in one another, in our ability to come together in our diversity and in mutual respect for our capacity for love. GLIDE will continue to be a place of sanctuary, dialogue and transformation.

GLIDE will continue to work in solidarity with efforts that have already arisen among the grassroots as well and in the halls of state and local governments—such as the California Values Act (SB 54)—to protect Dreamers and indeed all immigrants, documented and otherwise, who are targeted by policies of exclusion.
