people are uplifted
SUNDAY CELEBRATIONS offer a joyous experience of community, music, preaching and spirituality, reflective of the richly diverse world in which we live.
Celebrations feature the GLIDE Ensemble and Change Band, Reverend Cecil Williams, Janice Mirikitani, Pastor Karen Oliveto and Rev. Theon Johnson III.
Celebrations take place EVERY SUNDAY AT 9AM AND 11AM.
Alongside programs that feed the hungry and heal the sick, GLIDE Church has been nourishing the spirit and healing hearts, transforming thousands of lives every Sunday at Celebration for over 50 years. At Celebration, music lifts us up and the messages inspire us to work for justice for all people. No one leaves unchanged.
We are a short walk from Powell Street BART station and encourage everyone to use public transit if possible. We do not have a parking lot for public use, though we do offer limited double parking along Ellis Street between Mason and Jones and along Taylor Street between Eddy and Ellis. If you have any questions about accessibility, please do not hesitate to call the Church Office at 415-674-6090 or at email@example.com.
Our Sanctuary fills up quickly, so please arrive 30 minutes early to ensure seating. If you are bringing a large group, please call Vicky Lee at 415-674-6061 to reserve seating ahead of time. We ask that large groups sit in the balcony, which can be accessed via the entrance on Taylor Street.
When you get to GLIDE, please feel free to check in on Facebook and when you hear something during celebration you want to share, please feel free to tweet! @GLIDEChurch @GLIDESF. We will retweet your tweet!
GLIDE Memorial Church
GLIDE Memorial Church believes in a radically inclusive, just and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization.
About GLIDE Memorial Church
We pride ourselves in continually striving to meet the challenge set by Lizzie Glide in 1930 to be “A house of prayer for all people.” The Glide Foundation and Glide Memorial United Methodist Church were established by Lizzie GLIDE in honor of her late husband, Joseph, as well as a means to share her spirituality and commitment to those in need.
The Church and Foundation both experienced a renaissance in the 1960s with the arrival of the Rev. Cecil Williams, Janice Mirikitani and a community responding to the changing times and a growing need for new opportunities. This transformative period continues to live on in GLIDE to this day.
For over 80 years, GLIDE has been a spiritual home and refuge for people from many diverse backgrounds and spiritual traditions, as well as a provider of services to the people of the Tenderloin and San Francisco. We invite you to discover how you can get involved and draw strength from the ever-changing, ever-growing GLIDE community!
In addition to two Sunday Celebrations, GLIDE Memorial Church offers a wide array of programs, including small groups and Bible studies, meditation and yoga, recovery circles, the GLIDE Pride Team, groups for lesbian, trans, gay, bi and queer individuals, teams devoted to social justice and racial justice and more. Whether your call is to sing in the GLIDE Ensemble or serve internationally with our Ray of Hope trip to Kenya, there is a place for you here at GLIDE. If you have an idea for a group you think would be a good fit here at GLIDE, let us know!
There are also many different opportunities throughout the year to volunteer with the GLIDE Foundation. From serving meals with a small group of other congregants to joining hundreds of other volunteers to hand out toys at Christmas, from providing HIV counseling to tutoring a child after school, there are ways to get involved and make a change in our community.
Your journey with GLIDE is just beginning.
