Women’s Center

GLIDE’s Women’s Center walks with women on their road to recovery from violence, oppression, and isolation. Daily support groups are held and we need women volunteers to help set up and break down the room, serve food, etc. Women of color are strongly encouraged to apply.

Information Technology

It takes a lot of bits and bytes to keep all of GLIDE’s programming running, and IT is looking for volunteers with general skills, to those with specialty skills including project management and security.  We ask that you commit to at least 4 hours a week for a year.

GLIDE Health Services

Glide Health Services (GHS) provides healthcare to un/underinsured patients, and needs volunteers to support our Nursing Case Management program. The requirement is a one year commitment from the volunteer start date. We unfortunately can no longer host student nurses.

Family, Youth, and Childcare Center

Be a classroom assistant in our After School Program! This program takes place on weekdays from 2pm – 7pm.  Volunteers are expected to make a weekly commitment (e.g. every Tues) for at least 6 months. Current TB Test and a Livescan (fingerprint and background check) required, which will cost the volunteer $35. This process must go through GLIDE and cannot be transferred from any other source.

Sunday Celebrations

Ensemble Singers: GLIDE Memorial Church membership required. Bring established singing voice to 6:30pm Wednesday auditions in Room 201.

Celebration Office Reception

Support Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani’s staff and answer phones in the lively Celebration office Tuesday – Thursday from 10am – 3pm, Saturday 9am – 12pm or 12pm – 3pm, and Sunday 8am – 10:30am or 10:30 am – 1:30pm. Familiarity with GLIDE is helpful.

Sales Personnel

Become part of the joyous sales team that sells & inventories GLIDE merchandise in Freedom Hall after each Sunday Celebration.

Sales Manager

Organize and schedule sales volunteers who sell GLIDE merchandise on Sundays in Freedom Hall, and assist with inventory. Volunteer commitment is less than 4 hours a week.

Ushers

Glide Memorial Church membership required. Serve 9am & 11am Celebrations on a regular basis.

Graze the Roof

Help maintain our Rooftop Garden! GLIDE has a fabulous community garden on the rooftop of 330 Ellis Street, where we grow food, flowers and even have a beehive to make our own honey! Garden Volunteer Work Days take place on Thursdays from 10am – 2pm, and the First Sunday of every month from 9:30am – 1pm.

GLIDE Housing

Help with data entry and learn Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) software. This is especially good for people or students who want to pursue a career in social services and case management.

Fund Development

Learn about fundraising! We often need help in our Fund Development office with data entry and various administrative tasks.

Internships

GLIDE offers a wide variety of internship opportunities. You must attend the Volunteer Orientation to start any internship process. Bring your paperwork with you from your school to the orientation so we can see if GLIDE can provide an internship that meets your requirements. Please do not contact us in advance asking if we can host you before attending the meeting. We must see your paperwork and meet you in person before making any guarantees or setting up anything with other GLIDE staff.

SpeakOut

Help serve food and hand out raffle tickets at our weekly SpeakOut. SpeakOut is an open mic in GLIDE’s Freedom Hall, located on the 1st Floor, that happens every Wednesday at 5pm.

"What is a free store? Its first principle is to give whatever can be obtained to those who will take. This means clothing, furniture, appliances, food. In a ghetto area where physical and emotional needs are critical, where American Opportunity is an outworn joke, where the ravages of racism are as real as the pavement, a free store means revolution." #FromTheArchives #ThisMonthInHistory #UnconditionalLove #GLIDEHistory #SFhistory #vintagephoto #throwbackthursday to #ColdWar-era GLIDE. #GLIDEforDisarmament #FromTheArchives #GLIDEHistory #disarmament #vintagephoto Today marks 72 years after the horrific bombing of #Nagasaki, Japan at the end of WWII. GLIDE remembers the thousands of innocent people who tragically perished in the initial atomic blast as well as the many more thousands who suffered the physical and psychological symptoms of radiation exposure for the rest of their lives: the mothers who lost their babies, the communities ravaged by increased rates of cancer, the elderly survivors who have developed new forms of leukemia and face great pain in their old age. .
